TBIR Intern's Favorite Books: Sarata Edition

A Soft Place to Land by Janae Marks

Joy Taylor loves to sit in her room alone listening to music. But the good times end when her father loses his job. She will have to share her room with her sister. She must ensure that her little sister does not worry between the arguments that take place between her parents. Joy does not know how to get out of this situation.

 

All American Muslim Girl by Nadine Jolie Courtney

Allie is a teenager who lives in an American city with her parents. She comes from a muslim family, she doesn't know anything about her religion. Then she sees that the people around her have a problem with it. She will see that there are more people who have problems with her religion. And in the end she will begin to practice her religion,to have a connection with it.

 

Almost American girl by Robin Ha 

Chuna is a teenager who lived with her mother in South Korea. Then one day they traveled to America. Chuna is really not good at speaking English. She will be bullied at school. She will be alone without friends. Fortunately, she has a passion for comics. And she will meet friends who have the same passion.

Zuri Benitez  lives  in Brooklyn (Bushwick) with her family in an apartment. Suddenly, a young man named Darius moves into her neighborhood. Then they will fall in love with each other. Unfortunately Zuri will be moving with his family. and she wonders how she will live away from Darius. Even if they are distant, the distance will separate them and they will continue to love each other until the end. 

 

When We Make It By Elisabet Velasquez

Sarai  is 14 years old. She lives in Brooklyn with her mother and sisters. She's from Puerto Rico. She's the youngest one in her family. She will be pregnant by a man named Jesus. Jesus will be dead and his daughter will be left without a father. In the end she will name her daughter Hope, for all the obstacles she has experienced in life.

 
 

Sarata Cisse is an eleventh grade student at International Community High School. She likes to play video games, watch anime, listen to music and watch sunsets. Her favorite show is Stranger Things and her favorite book is “Pride” by Ibi Zoboi. She enjoys reading romantic books. After high school she wants to be a dentist.
