The Bronx is Reading Literacy Program

The Bronx Book Festival is proud to present The Bronx is Reading Literacy Program, that takes place the Friday before the annual Bronx Book Festival. .

The power of reading is in its ability to help us imagine different worlds, understand and celebrate our own, and create bridges between the two. We all tap into that power differently— some by smelling the pages of a book we love at home or seeing a writer talk about their work. Many students attending Title I (low income/low status) schools in the Bronx have never owned a book or experienced an author visit. The Bronx is Reading aims to change that, encouraging a deeper interest in reading among young people while promoting reading and writing skills.

All Bronx schools that qualify as Title I are encouraged to apply. If selected, schools will be asked to sign an agreement and provide detailed enrollment information to The Bronx is Reading (in accordance with FERPA guidelines). Applications will be scored on eligibility, need, and completion.

The Bronx Book Festival will open applications for the 2024 Literacy Program that brings new books, authors, and reading guides to Title I Bronx schools on January 8th, 2024-March 8th, 2024.
