5 Picture Books To Read With Your Little One For Women's History Month

 
 

Women play such a large role in our history and everyone should be aware of the beautiful contribution women have made over the years. Here are five picture books to read and spend quality time with your little one while learning about some of history’s many powerful women!

Cubs in the Tub by Candace Fleming, Illustrated by Julie Downing

Helen Martini, The Bronx Zoo’s first woman zoo keeper, and her partner Fred catered a tiger cub whose mother had lost interest in taking care of him. Soon, Helen began to nurse dozens of tigers and release them to the zoo once they were old enough.

A biography for young readers about New York City’s first Puerto Rican librarian, puppeteer, and storyteller Pura Belpré.  

 

Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly & Winifred Conkling, Illustrated by Laura Freeman

Based on the movie & New York Times best-selling adult book, this picture book for young readers focuses on the four Black women who assisted National Aeronautics and Space Administration otherwise known as NASA.

 

The Power of Her Pen by Lesa Cline-Ransome, Illustrated by John Parra

The biography of the African American journalist, Ethel L Payne, mainly focused on reporting during the Civil Rights movement. Her work consisted of focusing on bringing awareness to African Americans’ efforts and achievements.
